The Boutique Hotel Stadthalle is setting a new standard for environmentally friendly guest comfort with the sustainable mattresses in its rooms.
Vienna, January 20, 2025. The Viennese company for recyclable mattresses, MATR®, is doing pioneering work and setting a new standard for sustainable guest comfort in the hotel industry with its recyclable all-in-one mattress solution. The Boutique Hotel Stadthalle in Vienna, one of the most environmentally friendly hotels in Austria, has opted for the pioneering MATR® mattress solution. The hotel is thus further strengthening its sustainable commitment without compromising on quality and guest comfort. The MATR® mattress cores are manufactured by the Austrian foam expert NEVEON and are made of innovative foam that scores with an incomparably low carbon footprint. A responsible MATR® take-back system ensures environmentally friendly disposal and underlines MATR®'s commitment to a sustainable future. The collaboration between MATR®, Boutique Hotel Stadthalle and NEVEON shows the high potential of sustainability-oriented partnerships in the industry. "At MATR®, we make sustainable solutions for hotels practical and attractive," says Verena Judmayer, CEO of MATR®. "This partnership is an important step to show how a mattress can help hotels make the transition to a circular economy and become future-proof - also with regard to upcoming EU regulations such as the EU Circular Action Plan."
A commitment to sustainable hospitality
It is no coincidence that the Boutique Hotel Stadthalle in Vienna has opted for the recyclable MATR® all-in-one mattress solution, as it is one of the most sustainable hotels in Austria and the world's first SDG hotel. In concrete terms, this means that since 2020 the hotel has been guided by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which the boutique hotel has already come very close to fulfilling in many areas. "Sustainability has always been at the heart of our actions," explains Michaela Reitterer, owner of the Boutique Hotel Stadthalle. The hotel relies on environmentally friendly business strategies and integrates sustainable practices into everyday life. "The collaboration with MATR® and NEVEON enables us to integrate this guiding principle into our guests' sleeping experience and to combine comfort with responsibility," says Reitterer.
Innovative materials for sustainable sleep
The MATR® mattress cores used in the Boutique Hotel Stadthalle are produced by the foam specialist NEVEON, a company of the Greiner Group. The sustainably lightweight NEVEON foam foam.hybrid eNdura is used. This not only impresses with its comfort and durability, but also scores with an unprecedentedly low carbon footprint and minimal use of materials. Specifically, the foam.hybrid eNdura mattress core causes around 70% fewer emissions in the production process compared to conventional foam mattress cores with a comparable service life (as of December 2023, subject to change). In addition, it consists of 30% sustainably certified, renewable raw materials (mass-balanced materials) according to REDcert2. Since recycling is already considered during the production of the mattress cores, NEVEON relies on an adhesive-free combination of foams with different degrees of hardness and thus on a modular, recyclable design that consistently supports the principles of MATR®'s circular economy. "Our guiding principle is to improve the quality of life with our products," says Erwin Gossenreiter, Managing Director of NEVEON Austria. "Our foam.hybrid eNdura foam is an excellent example of how we combine functionality and sustainability in a meaningful way. We are proud to be part of this partnership with our product." The current project for the Boutique Hotel Stadthalle is not the first collaboration between MATR® and the Greiner Group, to which the foam company NEVEON belongs. Greiner has supported the business idea of the two MATR® founders Verena Judmayer and Michaela Stephen from the beginning and has been involved in MATR® for more than two years through the start-up hub Greiner Innoventures. Last year, Greiner Innoventures increased its stake in MATR®.
